Celebrating Laura’s coming of age at Municipal Winery with some of my Anthropologie lovelies

With the boyfriend being on a two week family trip to the Philippines, many more of these ladies nights will be happening. (Sarah and I are going to see Bon Iver at the Santa Barbara bowl on Sunday night. TOO excited.)

This right here is my uncle Mike. Everybody that knows my family knows that the Golfo cousins love to poke fun at him because of his greasy pancit and lumpia fingers wanting to touch our new iPhones and because of the random nonsense that comes out of his mouth and because he has this wonderful ability to fall asleep anywhere, even the noisiest of rooms.
While he was still in the military, he gave me $50-$100 savings bonds once every couple of months from 1987 to 1992. My mom just handed me a bundle of them now worth $1500, and they aren’t even fully mature yet. Wow. I am in some serious awe, because I would never take him as the uncle to be so money savvy or thoughtful enough to invest in his niece’s future. (Note to all: I’m not even his first niece or nephew. I’m number 3. It’s expected to be excited about your first niece or nephew and even your second but third in line?!)
Anyway. This is my way of saying both I’m sorry and thank you to my Uncle Mike. I’m so sorry for always thinking and treating you as simply my goofy uncle. And I’m very thankful for this bank account padding. You are wonderful and an inspiration. I can’t wait to start savings bonds for my nieces starting this Christmas.
